“By 5pm on my most recent visit there was an early-doors conviviality about the place, despite restrictions of these viral times. On a mild autumnal evening, some were standing or sitting (a meter or two apart) on Kenilworth’s handsome high street, contempplating the 11th century castle walls at the far end...... A refurbishment has highlighted narrow beams threaded through the ceiling on the bar. There are some thicker ones in the adjoining snug, including a potential headbanger for anyone over 6ft. Boarded floors are covered here and there with colourful rugs and dark walls are broken up with an eclectic collection of pictures.”
